Looking for Electrical Services?

Every electrical job is different. You may be adding socket points, rewiring a flat that was never designed for today's load, upgrading a panel, installing an inverter, solar or an EV charger, or tracing a fault that keeps tripping the board.

Your priorities may differ too — someone who can come today, a small repair done without fuss, or first-fix wiring laid properly before the plaster goes on.

The difficulty is not finding someone who can make the light come on. It is finding someone who leaves the wiring safe behind the wall.

Electrical Services in India

Electrical work is not one job. It is many — a socket, a panel, full rewiring, an inverter, solar, an EV charger, an emergency at midnight. Every service below opens its own page, so you can go straight to what you actually need.

Not listed here? Describe it in your own words in the requirement box — electrical work rarely fits neatly into one category.

Who it is for

Designed for Different Types of Customers

Who these electrical services are for — the marketplace can be useful for:

home

Homeowners

A tripping MCB, a socket that has stopped working, new light points, a ceiling fan to install, or full house wiring in a home that has never been rewired.

build

New homes & renovation

First-fix wiring before plastering, panel and earthing design, and light points planned to the layout rather than added by cutting finished walls afterwards.

storefront

Shops & offices

Commercial electrical work sized to the actual load — lighting, power points, panels and maintenance that cannot fail during business hours.

foundation

Industrial units

Three-phase distribution, switchgear, motor connections and periodic testing, where an outage stops production and safety compliance is inspected.

devices

Smart home & modern additions

Home automation, CCTV and security wiring, inverter and UPS, solar connections and EV charger installation — most of which need dedicated circuits.

schedule

Emergencies

Sparking, burning smell, repeated tripping or total power loss. These are not jobs to postpone, and a few of them are not jobs to investigate yourself.

Understanding electrical

About electrical services in India

Electrical work is the one trade on this site where a bad job is genuinely dangerous. A poorly finished wall is ugly; poorly finished wiring is a fire risk, and it stays hidden inside the wall where nobody can see it until something goes wrong. That is the whole reason it is worth being careful about who does it.

It is also a trade that has changed faster than most. A house wired twenty years ago was designed for a fan, a few lights and a television. The same house now runs air conditioners, geysers, a microwave, an inverter, possibly a car charger. The load has multiplied; the wiring and the panel often have not.

Safety: what a proper electrical job actually includes

These are the parts that separate real electrical work from someone who simply made the light come on. None of them are visible after the job is finished, which is exactly why they get skipped.

  • Proper earthing — the path that carries a fault safely to ground instead of through a person. Older homes frequently have earthing that exists on paper and not in practice.
  • Correctly rated MCBs — a breaker sized to protect the cable, not one sized to stop nuisance tripping. Fitting a higher-rated MCB to stop a trip removes the protection and leaves the cause.
  • An RCCB or ELCB for shock protection. An MCB protects the wiring; it does not protect you.
  • Cable sized to the load — air conditioners, geysers and motors need dedicated circuits with appropriate cable, not a spur off a lighting circuit.
  • Correct terminations — tight, correctly sleeved joints in proper enclosures. Loose terminations heat up, and heat inside a wall is how fires start.
  • Labelled panel so the next person can isolate a circuit without guessing.

If an electrician cannot explain the earthing arrangement and the MCB ratings for your board, that alone tells you something useful.

Wiring and rewiring: when a house actually needs it

House rewiring is disruptive and nobody does it for fun, so the honest question is whether it is needed. Some signs point clearly towards it:

  • Breakers tripping repeatedly, or fuses replaced more than occasionally.
  • Switches, sockets or the panel warm to the touch, or showing discolouration.
  • A burning smell with no obvious source — treat this as urgent, not as a nuisance.
  • Frequent use of extension boards because there are not enough points.
  • Aluminium wiring, cloth-insulated cable, or a board with rewirable fuses rather than MCBs.
  • Lights dimming noticeably when a heavy appliance starts.

Partial rewiring is often the sensible answer — the kitchen, the air conditioner circuits and the panel, rather than the entire house. A good electrician will tell you which parts are actually a problem instead of quoting for everything.

Electrical work for homes, business and industry

Residential electrical work

At home the work splits between small jobs — a switch, a socket, a fan, a light fixture — and the larger ones: rewiring, upgrading the panel, adding dedicated circuits for new appliances. The larger jobs are best done during renovation, when walls are already open and first-fix wiring can be laid before plaster and tiling.

Commercial and industrial electrical work

A commercial electrician works around the business, usually outside trading hours, and is judged on not causing an outage. Load calculation matters more here, because adding equipment to a distribution board that was never sized for it is the most common cause of failure.

Industrial electrical work moves into three-phase distribution, switchgear, motor connections and protection coordination, with periodic inspection and testing as a compliance requirement rather than an optional check.

Modern additions that need dedicated circuits

Most of what people add to a home now draws real current, and almost all of it needs its own circuit rather than a connection to whatever is nearest.

  • Inverter and UPS — needs a separate changeover arrangement and a decision about which circuits stay live during an outage.
  • Solar — connection, protection and metering that must comply with your distribution company's requirements, not just the panel supplier's instructions.
  • EV charger — a dedicated circuit with its own protection. This is the single heaviest continuous load most homes will ever add, and it should never share a socket circuit.
  • Home automation and smart switches — usually need a neutral at the switch box, which older wiring often does not have.
  • CCTV and security wiring — low voltage, but routed and terminated properly so cameras stay reliable.

What to do before the emergency electrician arrives

For an electrical emergency, the first few minutes matter — and unlike plumbing, some of this is about not making it worse. Many electricians offer emergency and 24 hour attendance, but what you do before they reach you still counts.

  1. Switch off at the main. If there is sparking, a burning smell or heat at the board, isolate the main supply before anything else.
  2. Do not simply reset a breaker that keeps tripping. It is doing its job. Repeated resetting removes protection from a fault that is still there.
  3. Never replace a tripping MCB with a higher-rated one. That does not fix the fault; it removes the safeguard on the cable.
  4. Unplug appliances on the affected circuit — the fault is often in an appliance rather than the wiring.
  5. Keep away from anything wet near electrics and cut power at the board rather than pulling out plugs.
  6. Then call. Describe what happened, what you smelled or saw, and what you have already switched off.

How to choose an electrician

Searching for an electrician near me gets you plenty of numbers, and for a small repair the one who answers may well be fine. For anything involving the panel, rewiring or a heavy new load, be more selective:

  • They ask about your existing load and board before quoting on new circuits.
  • They can explain earthing and MCB ratings in plain language.
  • They fit dedicated circuits for heavy appliances rather than extending an existing one.
  • They test and label after the work rather than just switching it on.
  • For larger or commercial jobs, they hold the appropriate licence and can produce test records.
  • They tell you when something is beyond a repair and needs the board upgraded, rather than patching it repeatedly.

Before deciding, consider

  • Whether materials — cable, MCBs, switches, fixtures — are included or bought by you.
  • Who repairs the wall, plaster or false ceiling that has to be opened for concealed work.
  • Whether the quote covers testing and certification for larger work.
  • How long the power will be off, and whether that can be scheduled.
  • Whether the fix addresses the cause or just the symptom, if the problem has recurred before.

How electrical work is usually quoted

Electrical work is not priced by area. Small jobs are quoted per visit plus materials; new wiring is normally quoted per point — a point being a light, fan, socket or outlet — and larger work such as panels, inverters, generators and EV chargers is quoted per job because the equipment dominates.

What moves a quote: how many points, whether the wiring is concealed or surface-run, cable specification, the rating and make of protective devices, and how much breaking and making-good is needed to reach concealed runs. Emergency and night attendance carries a call-out premium, which is fair — you are paying for someone to come now.

Post your requirement with what is wrong or what you want added, whether the property is new or existing, and whether it is urgent. Matched electricians and electrical contractors will contact you directly to discuss it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does house wiring cost in India? expand_more
Complete wiring for a 2BHK typically runs ₹40,000–₹90,000 depending on wire brand, number of points and switch series chosen. Per-point rates of ₹350–₹700 are common for smaller jobs. Get an itemised quote listing wire gauge and brands.
How do I know if my house needs rewiring? expand_more
Warning signs: frequent MCB tripping, discoloured switchboards, sparking plugs, flickering on high load, or wiring older than 20–25 years. An electrician can inspect insulation and load and tell you whether repair or full rewiring makes sense.
Which wire brand and size should be used? expand_more
Reputed ISI-marked brands with the correct size for each circuit — commonly 1.5 sq mm for lighting, 2.5 for power sockets and 4–6 for ACs and geysers. A good contractor mentions all of it in the quote without being asked.
Is earthing really necessary? expand_more
Yes — proper earthing is what saves lives and appliances when insulation fails. Many older homes have corroded or missing earthing; testing it takes minutes and fixing it is inexpensive compared to the risk.
Can I get an electrician for a small repair through EmpiresBoost? expand_more
Yes. Post the issue — even a single fault or a few new points — and available electricians serving India will contact you. Quotes are free; you choose whom to call in.
